[La Règle du jeu]
한달만에 다 봤다.
마지막 20분을 남겨두고 한달가까이 끌었다.
중간에 멈추니 다시 보기가 힘들었다. 이대로 질질 끌 수는 없을거 같아 한달이 지나고서야 이렇게 마지막 20분을 봤다. 후련하다.
영화를 다시봐야 하는데 용기가 필요할 만큼 재미없었다는 얘기다.
또 다른 이유는 이 영화를 내가 예전에 봤다라는 것이다. 기억은 안나는데 본 기억은 나는 영화, 분명 끝에 찝찝하게 끝나 영 뒤끝이 개운치 않은 영화라는 것도 한 몫 한 거 같다.
영화를 보면서 '위대한 개츠비'의 실사판이 아닌가 싶은 느낌을 받았다. 닮은 구석이 있다.
'La Règle du jeu' 우리말로 게임의 규칙, 또는 법칙이라는 뜻이다(라고 한다 - 불어른 모른다).
영화를 보면 인생에 지켜야 할 '선'이라는 측면에서 보면, 법칙보다는 규칙이 더 맞는 듯이 느껴지다가도, 법칙이라는 단어에서 느껴지는 '필연성'을 생각하면 법칙이라는 단어도 맞는 듯이 느껴진다.
'개츠비'얘기를 다시 꺼내면, 처음 읽을 때는 개츠비의 죽음이 우연의 연속으로 느껴졌지만 다시금 읽으면서 개츠비의 죽음이 우연을 가장한 필연이라는 생각이 들었다. 그렇게 죽지 않았어도 다른 형태로든 죽음은 개츠비에게 다가갔을 것이다. 이런 느낌을 이 영화에서 받는다.
다른 쪽으로는 박중훈, 오수연, 이경영 주연했던 영화 '게임의 법칙'이 강렬해 규칙보다 법칙이 더 어울려지게 느껴진다.
난 재미없게 봤다. 그런데 다시 볼 생각은 있다. 그런 영화다.
Sight and Sound 지에서 10년마다 선정하는 세계 10대 영화에서 당당히 3위(영화평론가들이 투표한 목록)를 랭크한 작품이다. 나만 재미없게 본 거일 가능성이 높다는 얘기다.
